Riling Up the Luxury Class

December 25, 2009

If concern over the embattled nation of Tuvalu, or over the anticipated inequities of projected droughts in some of the world’s most impoverished countries, doesn’t get your rankles up, maybe this video will. Certainly seems to be the objective of a local Boulder group. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all!

  1. If the dirtbags, and I mean that in the nicest way, get it, surely anybody can get it.

  2. Plenty of reasons to get to work, and it’s good to see J. Jones and others doing this. Thanks for the link.

  3. From the linked article: ‘On his travels to snowy peaks around the world, professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones started to notice the slopes were changing.’

So did he stop travelling the world with a large support team looking for helicopterable mountains he could slide down? No. He set up a non-profit telling ordinary week-a-year skiers to lag their lofts, take shorter post-piste showers and use less paper and plastic.

If you sincerely believe that man-made global warming is a big deal, recreational skiing is about the worst thing you can do. You deliberately go somewhere cold to do something pointless. The going, the coldness and the pointless activity all involve large and unnecessary energy usage, most of it carbontrocious.

But perhaps the very worst thing you can do is be a globetrotting professional snowboarder.

Jones, don’t nag your betters. Settle down. Get a proper job stacking shelves or something.

    • Nice one, Vinnie, couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m really tired of being scolded & lectured by hypocritical celebrities who have larger carbon footprints than many small cities.

  4. This is the sort of thing that people pay attention to, and if that is what it takes, so be it.
