This seems to be making the rounds, so I might as well pass it along too. Philosophy Q&A etiquette. Here’s my favorite:
Please, stop prefacing your questions with drawn-out compliments. It’s not useful for the speaker, and it’s tiresome for the audience. Get to the point. A philosopher isĀ happy when the audience is after her like a thief.
Emphasis on the “drawn-out.” Some short, non-hand-waving compliments, IMHO, are fine.
